Feeding your Soul
I have been thinking about the concept of “resourcing” to nourish my body when I get stressed and start to tumble outside my window of tolerance lately. When we “resource” we are calling upon the sensations of touch, imagery, movement, and all that brings us pleasure to help lead ourselves back to a feeling of safety and belonging.
If we use this tool to “visualize” we are supposed to imagine a happy place where we feel tranquil and and are experiencing bliss. This can be like a beautiful beach next to the sea, or a field of warm blowing grass in the sun. However, I happen to be lucky enough to actually be in Baja and feel like I am kind of in paradise and yet I still get sad. So, presently I have been having trouble with my calming imagery and I am still not as kind to myself as often as I would like to be.
Yesterday, I finally realized the image I can conjure in my mind that makes me always feel “resourced” though is when I am UNDERWATER floating in the sea.
I love to see real fish swimming around vs. focusing on the unhealthy thoughts that sometimes swim in my head. I feel grateful today that I finally made this connection and I smiled so big knowing I can now picture a place where I feel peaceful whenever I want.
Our imaginations harness beautiful tools. There is no shame in asking your body to help you to play to create your own special kingdom of protection like a little kid in kindergarten building a really awesome fort just for you!!!
